Particolare Immacolata Concezione (Velatio)

Restored paintings from the Church of San Francesco

At the end of 2021 the restoration of two canvases from the Church of San Francesco in Schio were completed. They both portrayed the Immaculate Conception and are now restored to the public.

The Immacolata Concezione (Velatio) by an unknown author of the XVIII century, canvas dimensions 205,5 x 113,3 cm, was kept within the Conception Altar, on the center of the wall in the small nave: it’s a finely made painting, which had been long lost because of its placement. Now, after decades of being hidden, it can be admired once again.

The second painting, also representing the Immaculate Conception (Madonna degli Angeli – Madonna of the Angels)by an unknown author in the XVIII century, measures 112 x 70 cm, and was placed in the small altar also dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the Churches’ Sacristy.

The exhibit tells the story of the various phases of restoration of the two paintings, carried out by Aurelia Rampon. It also examines the iconography of the Immacolata. At the end of the exhibit, some furniture of the same century is present, also belonging to the Church of San Francesco.
