The archaeological collections in the Civic Museum of Schio
110 years after the short-lived story of the first Civic Museum of Schio, on which Guido Cibin had worked so strenuously, the archeological collections belonging to the Municipality of Schio are once again viewable thanks to a virtual tour, now actually set up within the Museum, in occasion of the rebirth of the Civic Museum at Palazzo Fogazzaro.
We can once again appreciate the archeological finds of the Guido Cibin (Oderzo 1860 – Schio 1947) collection, kindly loaned by the Gori family. They come from Schio and areas around the town, but there is also a good section dedicated to Magna Graecia; the coins and medals of the Teopisto Strolin (Schio, 1868-1951) collection, which today counts 3500 pieces, with an important core made of Roman and Papal coins; finally, the refined imitations of Greek vases from the collection of Giovanni Mazzon (Schio 1925 – Legnago 1993).
The exhibit was realised thanks to the collaboration of the Civic Museum Palazzo Fogazzaro with the University of Padua, Cultural Heritage Department. Under the direction of professor Andrea Raffaele Ghiotto and with the contribution of various teachers and collaborators, many of these materials have been described and catalogued for the first time.
